Promoter pledges

Source: NSE’s “Pledged data” page, through the Data bank (nse_promoter_pledges). It holds the latest record for every listed company:

• the promoter’s holding (A, as % of total shares)
• promoter shares pledged or otherwise encumbered as of the last quarter (X, from the shareholding pattern), as % of the promoter’s holding and of total shares
• the shares pledged in the depository system by all holders, as % of demat shares
• NSE’s rupee values (shares × last available close)

Every printed percentage was checked against the share counts on every row.

Why it matters: a promoter who has pledged most of their stake has borrowed against it. A sharp fall in the price can bring margin calls and forced sales. The measure is X/A. This is descriptive and doesn’t forecast anything.

Rules

• Only companies whose latest record is for the latest quarter are compared; a few companies’ last records are older.
• NSE keeps no history on this page, so the time series begins on 2 Oct 2026 and grows as later quarters are captured.
