What changed industry AUM?

Separate net subscriptions from the rest of the change in assets. The residual can include market valuation, currency effects and other reporting or classification adjustments. It is not an investment return.

Twelve-month AUM change: net flows and the residual

Net flows plus valuation and other changes equals total AUM change.

How to read it. Compare the flow contribution with the residual. The residual is an accounting difference, not a return estimate for the industry's portfolio.

Growth relative to the assets at the start of the year

Both measures use AUM twelve months earlier as the denominator.

How to read it. Net flows divided by opening AUM measures subscription growth relative to industry size. The gap from AUM growth is valuation and other changes on the same scale.

Ranked by net inflow over the last twelve months. The percentage column is the year's net inflow against the category's assets a year earlier: it separates money coming in from markets lifting what was already there. Debt funds are one row because AMFI renamed their categories in August 2026.

Ownership differs by fund group

Equity, debt and hybrid funds draw different mixes of investors. Compare their AUM shares below, then open the folio table to compare account shares. AMFI's latest ownership observation is Jun 2026; it is a separate quarterly report from the monthly flows above. Domestic fund-of-funds are excluded from the industry total to avoid double counting, and shown separately.

Detailed reporting expands from September 2024. Earlier reports contain broader categories, so this latest breakdown does not imply that the same detailed history exists for every category.

How old are the assets investors currently hold?

AMFI's age-wise AUM report for Jun 2026 divides currently held assets into six age buckets. Compare equity and non-equity assets across investor classes. These are asset-weighted snapshots of surviving holdings, not the typical time an investor waits before selling.

Equity assets held for more than two years

Share of each investor class's currently held AUM, on actual disclosure dates.

How to read it. Differences describe the age mix of assets still held. Prices, fresh subscriptions and redemptions all change the mix, so this is not a cohort retention rate.

Share of industry assets with the largest fund houses

Monthly to the 2010s, quarterly since.

How to read it. A falling line means smaller fund houses are gaining ground. New entrants and mergers both move it, so read it with the number of fund houses in the table above.

Balanced advantage funds: net equity after hedges

These funds hold shares and hedge part of them with futures, so the equity in their factsheet overstates what investors are exposed to. Each day we regress a fund's last 60 daily returns on the Nifty 50 and a 5-year G-sec index; the equity slope is its effective net equity. It is an estimate, checked against the funds' own monthly disclosures (median error 4.9 points across 26 schemes). Because the window covers about three months, a sharp change shows up over weeks.

Estimated net equity of balanced advantage funds

Weekly, from June 2018. An estimate from NAV regressions, not a disclosure.

How to read it. The first two lines are how much of an investor's money behaves like shares. The control line should hug zero; if it drifts, the estimate is drifting too.

For comparison: Nifty 50 trailing P/E

Across funds, the median correlation of net equity with P/E is −0.22.

How to read it. If these funds followed valuation, net equity above would fall as this line rises. A correlation of −0.22 means they mostly do not.

Small- and mid-cap funds: days to sell

Since February 2024 every small- and mid-cap fund discloses a stress test: the days needed to sell part of its portfolio pro rata, after setting aside the least liquid 20%, trading no more than a set share of each stock's normal volume. Each fund computes its own number. The median gives each fund equal weight. AUM-weighted measures show how the distribution differs when larger funds carry more weight.

Small-cap funds: days to sell half the portfolio

Monthly, AMFI disclosure.

How to read it. More days means a fund would struggle to meet heavy withdrawals without moving prices. The shaded band is the middle half of funds; the grey line weights each by size.

Mid-cap funds: days to sell half the portfolio

Monthly, AMFI disclosure.

How to read it. Mid-cap stocks trade more than small caps, so these numbers sit lower. Read them the same way.

How much of the disclosed AUM sits in longer liquidation tests?

AUM in funds reporting over 30 days to sell half

Share of AUM with a usable disclosure in each category; a fixed descriptive threshold.

How to read it. The share weights each fund by its disclosed AUM. The test describes AMFI's prescribed scenario and does not forecast liquidation during an actual market shock.

Did the same funds become easier to sell?

A category median can fall when new funds with shorter liquidation times enter. These comparisons keep only funds in the same category with a valid disclosure at both dates. The matched funds can differ from one comparison window to the next.

Same funds: monthly change in days to sell half

Median of individual fund changes. Exact previous calendar month.

How to read it. Below zero means the typical matched fund reported fewer days to liquidate half its portfolio. A fall does not identify whether holdings, assets or market trading volumes caused the change.
