Bamonpookrie Tea Estate halts production; damage unquantified but insured. Mackeypore resumes plucking tomorrow. Nano-cap already in revenue decline.

What’s new

Bamonpookrie Tea Estate factory shut by flood damage; labour and staff quarters also hit.

Mackeypore Tea Estate only minor impact; plucking restarts tomorrow.

Insurance covers property and stores but with deductibles; no damage estimate yet.

Why it matters

For a nano-cap already bleeding revenue (-36% trailing), the shutdown of a key estate means near-term production loss and earnings uncertainty. Insurance mitigates but deductibles and policy limits could leave a residual hit.

What we’re watching

Timeline for water to recede and full damage assessment.

Any quantified loss estimates or production resumption date.

Whether insurance claims cover deductibles or leave a gap.

The full read

Kanco Tea's biggest estate is offline. Bamonpookrie Tea Estate flooded after a cloudburst in neighbouring Nagaland, shutting the factory and damaging labour and staff quarters. For a ₹25 crore revenue company with a ₹27 crore market cap, this is a material disruption. Tea is seasonal. An extended shutdown could hit a full crop cycle. Mackeypore, the other estate, escaped with minor damage and will resume plucking tomorrow. The company says property and stock are insured subject to deductibles and policy limits, but the absence of a damage estimate or production restart timeline leaves a wide uncertainty band around near-term earnings. Kanco's trailing revenue had already shrunk 36% and PAT 44%. This event adds earnings uncertainty to a shrinking business.
